Jim Benson, Agent
East Grand Forks, MN

Jim’s love for the outdoors began early in life, growing up on a farm with a family of 9, nothing was to be wasted. Jim’s dad had little interest in preserving any of the game he had harvested; table fare was his main concern. Deer antlers would just get nailed to the wall in the garage. That is where his interest in taxidermy came about. It just didn't seem right to throw those beautiful duck feathers, walleyes and deer heads away. Jim started doing taxidermy at the age of 14 years old which led to the start of his own taxidermy studio called Sportsman's Taxidermy Studio in 1979 and been doing it ever since.

Now Jim loves to hunt with his nephews and has made it his mission to see them learn the value of hunting and spending time with family. He has enjoyed helping them to get their first deer and taking them grouse hunting along with his dogs Molly and Zoey. Ruffed Grouse hunting brings the Benson family together. “This is why we hunt”, says Jim, “it instills good family values that will not be forgotten.”

He adds, “I take hunting and fishing very seriously, it breaks my heart when clients come to me after spending a bunch of time and money on a disappointing hunting or fishing trip. Often times if they would have contacted me before they went on the trip we could have had them better prepared or pointed in another direction.”

As a taxidermist Jim talks to hunters around the world every day. In addition he has personally traveled throughout the country, hunting and fishing in nearly a dozen states including Alaska. He has also traveled to Canada, Mexico, and made 3 trips to Africa while adding to his own collection of mounts.  His Brooks Range Dall Sheep ranks as his personal favorite trip to date. Jim's shop, Sportsman's Taxidermy Studio is well know for award winning quality and service.

Jim is a member of the NRA, MDHA, Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, and SCI.

Buzz Marvin, Agent
Fargo, ND

For Buzz hunting has been a way of life since he was old enough to walk beside his dad. For the first years it was carrying a stick, then a .410  and at 12, he was upgraded to a rifle. While duck, goose and upland birds were his first passion, he graduated to deer in the 1950’s and he never looked back. Guess you could say he was hooked.

Buzz has hunted for and taken most of North America’s big game trophies including a memorable trip to the Arctic where he remembers sleeping on ice and enduring high temperatures of -40. Today you can see his beautiful polar bear on display at Streiff Sporting Goods in Warroad, MN.  In addition to his trip to the high Arctic, Buzz has also hunted in more than 20 different states, 9 Canadian provinces, and Mexico. While he is not opposed to hunting with his rifle or black powder, his personal favorite is archery.  The exhilarating challenge of the up close encounter is a thrill that still gets to him despite his many years of experience.

Buzz is quick to acknowledge the support and sacrifice of his loving wife Kaye as she has been by his side for more than 40 years of marriage.  All along she has supported his passion and while he spends about 60 days every year in the field, and he admits he’s even missed anniversaries because of it, she still lets him do it.   In the off season Buzz and Kaye are busy spending time at the lake with the grandkids sharing with them the joys of the outdoors. It’s a family heritage sure to be carried on for generations to come.

Buzz is a lifetime member of the NRA and RMEF. He also belongs to SCI and Ducks Unlimited.

Jeff Baumgartner, Agent
Bemidji, Minnesota

Jeff grew up in a small town in northern Minnesota where family values and the outdoors were taught hand in hand. Jeff was fortunate to have a number of mentors growing up; they taught him not only how to hunt, fish, and camp, but how to appreciate the outdoor experience on a more personal level. Those early experiences instilled a lifelong passion in Jeff.  Not only does he enjoy hunting and fishing but has a deep reverence and appreciation for the outdoor experience as a whole.

Says Jeff, “Those early experiences taught me about integrity and responsibility. I learned through the outdoors a resolve and sense of purpose that was instrumental later in my professional career”.

Now along with the support of his wife Kathy, Jeff has been able to use the attributes he gained as a child to turn his boyhood dreams into reality. Jeff is blessed to have hunted and fished all over the world. His adventures have taken him from the jungles and rivers of the Amazon to the icy waters of the arctic. He has hunted most of the western states targeting his favorite species, Elk and Mule deer. Of course he still enjoys spending time in the outdoors with his family and friends back home in Minnesota as well.

Jeff’s true passion lies in hunting with his recurve. He has taken a number of big game animals with his traditional equipment, a testament to the values he acquired as a young boy. “The closeness of the encounters required while hunting with my recurve makes for a truly rewarding challenge and experience”,   says Jeff.

Scott Duberowski, Agent
Parkers Prairie, MN

Growing up smack dab in the lakes area it really was no surprise that Scott’s early addiction was fishing. A love he no doubt inherited, fishing was something the whole family did together. Before he was a teenager he found himself sick with what he called "Muskie Fever".  By the time he was 20 he was taking home hardware in a nationally televised tournament. Scott’s fishing passion found him traveling his home state of Minnesota and neighboring Canada in the summer and then in search of open water in places like Kentucky when the ice kept his boat off the lakes at home.

While he still loves fishing something magical happened to him in his early twenties. He had always been a hunter, but when he put his hands around the base of the antlers on that first trophy whitetail something changed. Now Scott is as crazy about hunting as he used to be about fishing, not that the fishing isn’t still an obsession too. Scott has been fortunate to hunt and fish in multiple states and while he has found Kansas to be a bow hunter’s paradise he still get’s just as excited about hunting “the pines” back home.

Scott and his high school sweetheart Kayla will be married this summer bringing two families together that share a love for the outdoors. Adds Scott, “Hunting, fishing, trapping, looking for sheds, just being out there with family and friends, what more could you ask for?” Like everyone at Team HHI Scott has a fond appreciation for the outdoors and believes there is a core set of values that is exemplified through outdoor experiences.

Scott is dedicated to personal service and loves having the opportunity to help others find the joy of hunting and fishing that he has been blessed to find. A conservationist he works hard to help maintain habitat and local fisheries as well. He is also a certified firearms safety trainer. Giving back, especially to the youth, is one of those core values important to Scott.

Laura Marvin, Agent
Minneapolis, MN

There is no question that Laura has been blessed to be raised in a family that not only respects the outdoors but has a passion for all it has to offer.

Spending time in the outdoors with family and friends since Laura was a toddler has given her great joy and a sense of appreciation for all that is out there for us to enjoy. No question that she has learned “life lessons” that revolve around respect, determination, patience and enjoying moments and everything they have to offer.

Laura was fortunate to be raised in an environment that has fostered a passion for the great outdoors; she took full advantage of opportunities presented to her. Having success with small game as a youngster, at the age of 12 Laura harvested her first big game animal, a whitetail buck with her bow and arrow. That experience peaked her interest and set her off on a mission to explore and enjoy the great outdoors... and hunting.

Laura has had experience hunting Whitetail, Black Bear, Mule Deer, Caribou, Dahl Sheep, Grizzly bear and plenty of small game. She has spent time on the water chasing walleye, muskie, bass, lake trout, Grayling and brook trout. She is comfortable with a rifle, shotgun and bow and arrow.

Laura’s recalls her favorite hunting memory: “I will never forgot conquering the majestic dahl sheep of Alaska with my dad. For nearly two weeks we camped, we hiked, we climbed, we hunted. One night, around 2:00 am, we arrived back at our tent-camp, exhausted and victorious; after 20 hours of hiking, climbing and stalking, I harvested my dahl sheep. I crawled to the tent, feeling as though I was unable to move. I shed my pack, unloaded my gun and layed, staring up into night the sky. Soon enough, the Northern Lights start to dance... and I fell asleep, knowing I would never forget that moment. Knowing I want to live the rest of my life spending time outdoors.”

I look forward to working with our clients as they prepare for their time in the field. I have a great passion for the outdoors and am committed to doing the best I can in meeting their expectations with our many destinations.

Seth Rorem, Agent

Minot, North Dakota

Growing up in the Minnesota northwoods, born the son of a conservation officer, there was no question Seth would develop a fond appreciation of the outdoors. His father stressed integrity and ethics that not only helped shape the young man as a hunter but also as a person.  Seth recalls joining his father on numerous hunting and fishing trips as a child. Catching crappies on Rainy Lake, carrying an empty .410 to the duck blind, sitting under a ladder stand in a sleeping bag, he was immediately and permanently hooked on the outdoors. Seth has now become that important role model with a daughter of his own and enjoys sharing those priceless experiences once again.

From his teenage years through his early twenties Seth enjoyed building a client base as a successful guide. A multi faceted outdoorsman, Seth spent summers on the water, especially on the shield lakes in Ontario. As fall approached the transition was to the river bottoms of South Dakota. Deer were a favorite but there always had to be time for bird hunting as well.  In addition to a well rounded guiding career Seth has been blessed to pursue his passions all over the mid-west as well as making several trips to the provinces of Canada. His favorite? “Hard to beat a spot and stalk for a trophy mule deer”, says Seth.

These days you will often find him chasing walleyes on the Missouri River in the summer and patterning trophy bucks on his food plots before the archery season begins in early fall. Of course as a father he now makes time to take that special little girl out for panfish on her Barbie pole. For Seth the outdoors is his “release”. There is just something about the smell of fall in the air, the sight of a short hair on point, a walleye slipping the drag, that flips that switch.

As a member of Hosted hunts Seth brings the passion and respect that he learned as child and as a father. The customer service and attention to detail that made him successful as a guide also serve him well. Seth fully understands the importance of listening closely to clients to ensure that he understands their expectations when booking that memorable trip.

Brent Strickler, Agent

Euclid, Minnesota

For most people who grow up in the Red River Valley there are two things that become a
way of life…farming and hunting. For Brent this was no exception as both are still passions that he actively pursues today. Today running a successful farm, being the proud father of two great kids, making time to hunt, and being an active community member means time management is an essential for Brent. He works tirelessly to find success in each of those arenas and brings that same work ethic to our team here at Hosted Hunts.

When given the choice Brent will head west to chase elk. Having hunted numerous times in Montana and Wyoming, the cry of a bugle in the cool mountain air a still brings shivers down his spine and he goes back year after year to relive the excitement. In addition to multiple other states he has also hunted in Mexico. Now as the children have grown Brent has been blessed to have them hunting alongside him. In doing so he is teaching them the importance of respecting the outdoors and the rewards it brings. As farming lends itself to prime whitetail habitat and the Strickler family has been fortunate to harvest a number of trophies while spending quality time together at home. Now they are branching out and hunting together in other parts of the country. Big game is Brent’s true passion but you will also find him in the neighboring Dakotas hunting ringnecks every fall.

Brent has built a reputation as leader in the agriculture industry. His success in agribusiness and his knowledge of corporate needs coupled with his passion for hunting are a tremendous combination. With a growing market for corporate adventures for both clients and employees alike, Brent knows what it takes to put together a productive trip that is not only memorable but also delivers a return on investment.

Brad HoppeAgent
Parkers Prairie, MN

Although he was born in the middle of the lakes country in central Minnesota Brad moved with his family as a young child to southeastern Iowa.  As a family, hunting and fishing were a cherished tradition that spanned generations.  Some of his best memories included the family fishing trips which became an annual tradition.  His central Minnesota roots as well as the pristine waters of Canada were regular stops for the Hoppe family in the summer months. While growing up, Brad's dad, uncles, and the rest of the family instilled in him a great respect and passion for the outdoors.  By the age of 14 Brad was fishing tournaments in Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois.  After high school he went on to the University of Northern Iowa to play football.  When injuries brought a premature end to his playing career Brad sought to replace that excitement the only way he knew how, in the great outdoors. Trading cornfields for mountains Brad left the plains of Iowa in the rearview mirror and he set up shop in renowned Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  With Yellowstone as a backyard there was no shortage of adventure for a passionate outdoorsman.
In the early to mid 1990’s Brad spent the fall months guiding in neighboring Montana with his cousin.  Elk, deer, bear, antelope and the occasional wingshooting adventure brought great enjoyment and guiding seemed to be a natural fit.  In the off season he got his fishing fix by guiding float trips on the famous rivers of Jackson Hole that still call to fly fisherman all around the globe today.  Near the end of the decade Brad found himself excelling in the corporate world and seized an opportunity to get back to central Minnesota.  Unable to leave the excitement of guiding behind, he still spent the fall months guiding in Montana.  When that wasn’t enough he found a new addiction closer to home, the exciting sport of muskie fishing.

Success in that arena came just as it had in the others.  Soon Brad had built a tremendous following as one of the most reputable guides in the state.  When his wife Carrie invented a revolutionary tackle design the Hoppe’s took the Muskie fishing world by storm and almost overnight became among the most nationally recognized names in the fishing industry.  Brad and Carrie have been featured on national television shows, and have produced a number of videos as well. Brad has also been a keynote speaker at sportshows throughout the Midwest. Today, Musky Mayhem Tackle is going strong and Brad still finds time to fit in guide trips for a long list of repeat clients.  Those anxious clients now have to compete for time with Brad’s little girl Mika who will no doubt accompany mom and dad on many memorable outdoor adventures as the family heritage continues.

While muskies are big and ferocious predators and while they provide a unique level of excitement, the hunting fever has once again sounded its beckon call.  Montana was a likely first stop for Brad as he drew a mountain lion tag in a difficult trophy area.  His arrow found the mark and his cat was the biggest taken with a bow in Montana that year. Having hunted, fished, and guided across the country Brad draws on his experience and knowledge as he applies for multiple big game tags annually.  Combine that with Brad’s genuine personality and relentless passion and drive and you have a recipe for absolute success.   As a member of Team HHI, these same attributes will serve Brad and his clients well.

Brad is a member of Safari Club International, the National Rifle Association, the Wild Sheep Foundation, the National Professional Anglers Association and is a United States Coast Guard Captain.
